Golden Giddyup 2018 - Recap

Golden Giddyup 2018 - Weekend Recap

By: Taylor Bonga

What an amazing weekend!  The weather was cool in the morning, hot and sunny before lunch and cool with cloud coverage in the afternoon on both days!  I was lucky enough to be included as a head coach during the VIDA MTB Series clinic, the last clinic of the 2017 season!  The clinic was an excellent start to a jam packed biking weekend.

The clinic was filled with 30 participants who were eager to amp up their skills! We had 10 coaches, 2 ambassadors and 3 staff members raring to go by 8:00 am Saturday morning.  We had introductions then broke out into our groups.  The morning was used for setting intentions, working on fundamentals and progressing confidence in our abilities on the bike.  Lunch was spent resting and replenishing our calories for the afternoon events, most everyone joined in on the tech talk from Uriell Carlson regarding diet and nutrition.  Many groups got out to North Table Mountain to take their new and improved skills to the trail in the afternoon.  The day was wrapped up with raffle giveaways and one more tech talk regarding bike maintenance.

My favorite thing about coaching is seeing the progression in both bike skills and confidence in each individual.  Witnessing the celebration, excitement and awe of doing something they didn’t believe they could do is an immeasurable reward that you can’t find in many places.  I love the community of women inspiring and encouraging other women, there is just something very special and safe about the environment.

The next day was the second annual Golden Giddy Up race which a few coaches, and even a few participants, raced!  The day was filled with vendors, entertainment, beer, whiskey and live music.  There is something to be said for a family friendly Front Range mountain bike event.  It felt so close knit even though the community is growing every day.  Community is a feeling of fellowship, to have common attitudes and interests; you could definitely feel that camaraderie and bond throughout the weekend!  It is heart warming to know what amazing women I am able to surround myself with & that all of them will be there as mentors and role models to my 1-year-old baby girl!
